Seeing the Pastels of Degas at a special exhibit at the Phillips in Washington, DC that focused on Degas’s use of innovative pastel techniques Liz was struck by the beauty of the colorful surface quality. Degas used steam to add thickness in areas of interest as well as thin passages with only the hint of color from the monoprint underpainting. Participants will copy a Degas or paint their own composition using steamers and thinned color to create an interesting surface quality. Creative play encouraged. Steamers and inks provided. Short supply list at registration.
